  • Dharmendra, known as the “He-Man” of Bollywood, is one of the most renowned and popular actors in Indian cinema. With his powerful personality, impressive acting, and versatile roles, he ruled the Hindi film industry for more than six decades.

Early Life

  • Dharmendra was born as Dharam Singh Deol on 8 December 1935 in the village of Nasrali in Punjab.
  • He came from a simple family, but through hard work and dedication, he created a distinct identity for himself in the film world.
  • His strong physique and influential personality earned him the title of “He-Man.”
  • Dharmendra married Prakash Kaur in 1954. They have four children –
  • Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and two daughters.
  • In 1980, he married actress Hema Malini. They have two daughters – Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

Film Career

  • Dharmendra acted in more than 300 films in his career.
  • He excelled in all types of roles including romance, action, comedy, and emotional characters.
  • His major films include Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, Pratigya, Bandhua, and Anupama.
  • In the 2000s, he appeared in films like Apne, Life in a… Metro, and Yamla Pagla Deewana.
  • In 2023, he played an impactful role in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which was highly appreciated by audiences.

Awards & Honours

  • He received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
  • In 2012, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan.

Political Career

  • Dharmendra was elected Member of Parliament from Bikaner in 2004 as a BJP candidate and served as a member of the 14th Lok Sabha.
